Rih'a is a multimedia research project that explores olfactory experiences and traditional distillation through the staging of the artist's interaction with a plant growing on his grandmother's grave. Evolving through field research, video calls and recorded interviews, the project explores the agency of this plant on the threshold between realms: living and dead, present and distant. The project takes its name from the Darja (colloquial Algerian) word rih'a that means both "scent" and "memory.”
