Story of a Face weaves memoir and imagination to trace the journey of a face that has disappeared and reappeared, and the repercussions of both states. The author explores the particularities of her childhood and her relationship to her father: how her father broke the relationship, and how they worked together to put it back together. She examines the psychological entanglements that accompanied her family’s migration to the Gulf, and reflects on Assiut, her journey with Al-Azhar, and Cairo. Through her storytelling, the author attempts to answer a single question: Which face do you live with?
