Small Debts is a book of written letters that explores the letter as a form and its aesthetic and political possibilities, drawing on the status of the letter within Arabic literary traditions — where the scholarly, the political, and the aesthetic converge. The project considers the letter a poetic realm capable of redrawing the boundaries between critical and literary thought, one that may help us reckon with the responsibility that comes with writing in a dark moment such as the present moment of genocide.
