Espinyat Music: The Memory of Chemama is a documentary art project dedicated to preserving the espinyat music tradition of the Haratin community in the Chemama region of Mauritania. Building on its documentary focus, the project will also offer training in espinyat music and stage live performances as well as produce an album from some of the form’s first generation of practitioners. Combined, these aspects look to safeguard the history of espinyat and pass it on to younger generations.
