The Dervishes of Cairo: A City of Magic and Fantasy is a collection of oral stories about historic Cairo and the changes it has faced in recent years. As accelerated government-led projects continue to reshape and disfigure the city, it has been suspended in a hybrid state, stripped of an identity that has endured since its founding. Bringing in the stories of the city’s dervishes — those who know the city by heart and carry memories of its streets, rhythms and transformations —  the project seeks to offer a contemporary account of a city consuming itself.
