Between the Rivers is a recording of eight chaabi songs from the Khabour area in Syria and the Mosul area in Iraq. The recording presents the songs in a contemporary style while preserving their folkloric essence. The majority of the songs have never been recorded before and have been relayed only via oral transmission. Many of the people in these areas have been subjected to ethnic cleansing and displacement, which has led to a gradual loss in their cultural heritage and its dissemination due to the wars in the region.
