Dima Nachawi

Syria

Dima Nachawi is a Syrian artist and visual storyteller. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Damascus University and a master’s in art and cultural management from King's College London. Her work spans shadow puppetry, illustration and animation, merging artistic practice with academic insight on socio-political themes. She has worked on documenting the everyday lives of Syrians in conflict and preserving their collective memory. She is also an advocate for the rights of women, prisoners of conscience and victims of enforced disappearance.

Dima's work has been exhibited in Beirut, Brussels, Paris and London. In recognition for her work as a clown performing for children affected by conflict, she was included on the BBC’s 2018 “100 Women” list. She also supports refugee communities through organizations like War Child Holland and UNHCR.
