Hala al-Sayyad graduated with a fine arts degree in 2006. She published her first story collection in 2015, followed by a second collection and two novels, the last of which was The Temptation of Extinction in 2023. Her short film A Beautiful Pearl received a production grant from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The scenario, based on her first novel Emergency Exit, received two awards at the Cairo Film Connection, a part of the Cairo International Film Festival. Hala works in collaboration with the artist Makhlouf, a caricature and graphic novel artist and cover designer. His work has been published in Al-Dostour newspaper and Al-Ahram Al-Iktisadi. He is one of the founders of Tuk Tuk magazine and currently lectures and organizes workshops on the art of caricature and the graphic novel. His illustrations are currently published daily in Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper.
