Faces and Memories is an edited volume of collected works of Zaki Tolimat. It opens a window onto a lesser-known side of Tolimat, the pioneer of modern Arab theater: his work as a prolific art critic whose writings reflected the cultural life of his time, appearing in periodicals such as Arrisalah, Al-Hilal, Al-Arabi and Al-Kawakeb. The first part of the project presents some of his portraits of iconic figures from his era, including Umm Kulthoum and Naguib al-Rihani. The second gathers a selection of his essays on theater history, theater and film criticism, as well as interviews and previously unpublished documents. Together, they serve as a valuable resource on 20th century Arab theater.
