(Re-)Connections

"(Re-)Connections" is an album that aims to overcome social and ethnic divides that have been engineered by years of political dictatorship, which singularly championed the music of “Arab” tribes at the expense of the country’s minorities, which also in turn closed in on themselves. The project will aim to render these sealed off traditions legible to communities within Sudan by producing accessible versions of traditional songs from specific regions and to counter this Arab hegemony. Mohamed Adam will use his personal narrative of displacement from his home in South Darfur as a container and reference point for the stories that many Sudanese share.
