Maybe You Should Go to Bed

Sarah Abu Ghazal  |  Creative and Critical Writings  |  2020  |  Palestine
The project consists of a collection of short stories that explores the connection of different generations of Palestinians in Lebanon to their identity, based on real memory (archive) and imagination.
Abu Ghazal chooses to question the past, and to imagine multiple possibilities for reconnecting the duality of the Palestinian identity - the "absent" and "the present" - with each other. This enables her to create a continuous relationship between the past of the exile and the present, without rendering this relationship troubled or lost. This is achieved through imagining the return of the ancestors who were expelled from Palestine, and their entry into the daily lives of their grandchildren, and consequently imagining what this meeting will be like, and what it will engender.
