Understanding the socio-economic and political upheavals Middle Eastern women face is burdened by photography’s problematic historical and contemporary depictions of them, often reducing their challenges to what they wear. “Carry Over” is comprised of fictional portrait photography staged with constructed sculptural vessels; it recalls, decodes and subverts familiar images while questioning their ability to inform nuanced understanding of complex identities.
