AFAC-supported Films Celebrate Women at CPH:Dox
12 / 3 / 2024

Three documentary films supported by AFAC are participating in the 2024 edition of the Copenhagen International Documentary Festival (CPH:Dox), taking place from March 13 to 24, 2024. All three documentaries bear the names of women directors, and bring forth intimate narratives where women take center stage.

Premiering in the Special Premieres section of the festival, is the Jordanian documentary “Tell Them About Us” by Rand Beiruty. The film follows a group of delightful teenage girls who have one thing in common: they have all fled their homelands in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Kurdistan and Romania, seeking peace in a quiet German provincial town. Together with the girls, the filmmaker creates a space where they stage their biggest and wildest dreams in front of the camera. A space where anything is possible.

From Palestine, “Bye Bye Tiberias” by Lina Soualem is about four generations of Palestinian women who give vivid and moving accounts of their relationship with their homeland, their hometown of Tiberias, and the resistance that has been passed down from mother to daughter. The film competes in the festival’s Highlights section.

In the Artists and Auteurs section, we have “The Mother of All Lies” by Asmae El Moudir: a Moroccan filmmaker's attempt to reconstruct her family's shadowy past.
