The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture - AFAC has teamed up with streaming platform Netflix through the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity to launch “Women in Film: an Introduction to the Creative Process”. This new training program, aimed at emerging women filmmakers and women film graduates residing in Egypt, Jordan, KSA, Kuwait, and the UAE, will offer a series of workshops which will be held in Cairo, Dubai, and Jeddah. 45 women will be selected to take part in the program, which will span between November and December 2023.
Netflix has previously partnered with AFAC for a scheme that gave five Arab women producers and directors a total of $250,000 via the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity.
“Throughout our 16 years in operation, we have been committed to supporting bold creative voices of women and men artists, who are trying to push boundaries and challenge status-quos. In film specifically, 44% of supported films to date are by women filmmakers. Through this renewed partnership with Netflix, we build on that commitment, extending our technical support to emerging women talents and allowing for a deeper understanding of the inequities and inequalities that women are subjected to in the film industry,” stated Rima Mismar, AFAC’s Executive Director.
The “Women in Film” call for applications opens today August 17, 2023, and will run until September 14, 2023.
