Ossama Halal is a Syrian theater maker who graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus in 2004. In 2002, he founded the Koon theater troupe in Damascus, which staged eight productions. After relocating to Beirut in 2013, he established the Koon Theater studio and lab, dedicated to producing plays and organizing workshops for amateurs and professionals. His productions aim to provoke dialogue and open space for questioning social and political issues. In collaboration with independent, multidisciplinary artists from diverse backgrounds, he experiments with theatrical forms that merge multiple performing arts. Ossama’s work engages marginalized and culturally underserved audiences, staging performances in areas with little or no cultural programming and taking theater outside of its traditional spaces.
