Asmae El Moudir is a Moroccan filmmaker, producer and screenwriter. She studied at La Fémis in Paris and has directed several award-winning short films, including The Colors of Silence (2011) and Thank God It’s Friday (2013). Her first theatrical documentary feature, The Mother of All Lies (2023), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Directing Prize in the Un Certain Regard category as well as the Golden Eye for Best Documentary. The film was later screened at TIFF and Sundance, shortlisted for the Oscars in the International Feature category and nominated for the PGA Award and the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary. In 2023, she received the International Documentary Association (IDA) Award for Best Director. In 2024, Asmae served on the Un Certain Regard jury at Cannes, chaired by Xavier Dolan.
