Founded in 2021 in Tripoli, Lebanon, Rumman is dedicated to supporting and advancing the independent and alternative music scene in North Lebanon. Since its inception, its work has been specifically grounded in the principle of decentralization. By operating outside of Beirut's dominant cultural scene, Rumman has focused on developing cultural infrastructure and the music scene in a city that has experienced systemic marginalization, economically and culturally. It currently manages Stereo Kawalis, a former Art Deco cinema renovated to become a music and cultural hub for artistic production, live performance, rehearsals, and community engagement. Rumman also organizes Tripoli's only independent music festival, now in its fourth annual edition every September. The festival showcases local and international talent, attracting visitors and artists to discover the city's unique character. Additionally, Rumman supports experimentation and cross-cultural exchange through creative residencies. These residencies encourage the re-imagining of local musical heritage and have hosted artists from Egypt, France, Lebanon, Syria, and Tunisia. Central to Rumman's approach is a strong emphasis on partnerships and collaborations as a core modality of work.
