Ma3azef

Jordan

Ma3azef is a cultural platform dedicated to music. It has, since 2012, developed a structured and original cultural approach, through which it has built a broad readership across the Arab world. It works across criticism, analysis, and new forms of journalism, and is also engaged in extensive research projects, translation, regional training, and archiving. Since its establishment, Ma3azef has challenged several conventions in the world of Arab publishing and journalism, attracting diverse social, geographic, and demographic groups to reading about music and culture in Arabic. Today, it seeks to draw on its wealth of knowledge and its value system to create models and initiatives across different areas of contemporary Arab culture.

One of its most prominent regional training initiatives was the Ma3azef school for writing about music (2015-2019). It has also contributed to the New Approaches exhibition with the Kamel Lazaar Foundation (Tunisia, 2020), artistic curation and development for the Sharjah Architecture Triennial’s Rights of Future Generations (RFGen in the United Arab Emirates, 2019), the first Ma3azef conference on Arab music held with the Sharjah Art Foundation (2019), and Ma3azef Radio, a global archive of music (2020-2022).

Ma3azef is also a founding member of the Counter Academy for Arab Journalism (2020-present).
