Beirut Physical Lab (BPL) strives to build a sustainable infrastructure for performing arts, where the body becomes the primary tool for storytelling, expression, and transformation. Rooted in the social and political realities of the region, and inspired by movements passed down through generations and contemporary experiences, BPL explores how dance can become the key to a more united and resilient future. Among the BPL’s flagship programs, BeiRoot Bodies is a three-month intensive training program for emerging artists. Over four sessions — including one dedicated to alumni — 38 artists have been trained, more than half of whom remain actively engaged both within their community and in the Lebanese arts scene. Launched in response to the 2024 war, Solidarity in Motion supports artists’ international mobility through residencies and tours in Italy, with upcoming opportunities in France and Germany, namely at the Tanzfabrik in Berlin. Beyond technical excellence, BPL fosters a supportive ecosystem where the body serves as an emotional, psychological, and political lever, promoting creativity, collaboration, and access to professional opportunities, while pursuing artistic research deeply rooted in the realities and challenges of the region.
