Aya Abdallah

Lebanon
Aya Abdallah is an artist and architect based in Beirut. Working with text and image (both moving and still), her work explores forms of dwelling that materialize within ruins and militarized sites. Her current research examines the architecture and political economy of reconstruction, focusing on destroyed cemeteries and the afterlives of gravestone rubble, as well as the labor of mourning that emerges through the rebuilding of burial grounds in South Lebanon. Aya holds an MFA in Digital + Media from the Rhode Island School of Design. She was a fellow at Ashkal Alwan’s Home Workspace Program and a resident at ZK/U (Center for Art and Urbanistics) in Berlin.
