Sama’an Ashrawi is a Palestinian-American storyteller and film director. His work exists at the intersection of print, music, film, TV and podcasts. He has collaborated with artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Kendrick Lamar, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. He is the writer and director of the 2017 animated series, Afrofuturism, narrated by Little Simz, released on the DUST YouTube channel. In 2024, he co-wrote Maktub, the lead single of multi-Grammy winner Gary Clark Jr’s most recent album. In 2025, he published the article “Chasing the Ghosts of Palestinian Rock N Roll” in GQ Magazine. The piece tells the story of his family’s pioneering rock band, Al-Bara’em, which he is currently developing into a feature film titled The Blooms.
