Hicham Chami is an ethnomusicologist currently serving as a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University, having completed his PhD at Columbia University. His research explores the politics of heritage, memory and cultural recognition, with a focus on marginalized musical traditions and devotional performance in Morocco's Jebala region.
Hicham has conducted extensive fieldwork and archival analysis in the region and is engaged in long-term efforts to document, preserve and make accessible the broader Jebala musical heritage. His work has been published in The World of Music, Journal of American Folklore, Turath and Journal of Folklore Research.
