Faris Harram

Iraq

Faris Harram is an Iraqi poet, academic and political activist. He holds a PhD in philosophy, with a focus on contemporary Arab thought, from the University of Kufa. His publications include the poetry collection Marra Waheda (One Time, Sharjah, 2005), Iraq 360 degrees (Berlin, 2007), a cultural travelogue of the countries surrounding Iraq; the poetry collection An taqleb al-fekra (To Flip the Idea, Beirut, 2019); and A Land Ready for Fascists (Baghdad, 2023).

Faris served as president of the Union of Writers in Najaf (2010-2016) and has received several awards including the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity in Poetry (UAE, 2005), the Golden Haqar Award for Best Screenplay at the Oran International Arab Film Festival (Algeria, 2007), the Al-Babtain Prize for Poetry Creativity (Kuwait, 2010) and the Open Eye Award for Photography (Berlin, 2011). He is currently a professor of philosophical literature at the University of Kufa.
