Founded in March 2012 in Shebin El Qanater, Egypt, Darak aims to contribute to the building of a local community that practices and supports arts. To that end, Darak has organized hundreds of workshops and dozens of artistic projects.

In 2016, the Darak Puppet Troupe was established, which has carried out several workshops for making marionette puppets and shadow puppets. It has also produced several puppet shows, including Book of Fairy Tales and The Adventures of a Faris. The troupe has also produced content for video. 

In 2022, Darak established the Darak Mobile Puppet Theater, which has since conducted several tours.
