Joan is a doctoral candidate at the History Department of Harvard University working on the intersection of Ottoman history and the global history of capitalism. She holds an M.A. in History from the American University of Beirut and an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics. In a previous incarnation, she worked as a money markets trader in Amsterdam and London.
