Vartan Avakian is an artist working with video, photography and sculpture. His work explores data as stains and scratches — inscriptions fossilized over time — framing memory as an act of excavation and participation. He focuses on the preservation of visual and oral culture. His work has been exhibited internationally, and he engages in academic discussions on photography, memory and collecting practices. He is a board member of the Arab Image Foundation.
