Based on “Women at Point Zero”, Nawal El Saadawi’s 1975 novel, this project reanimates opera as a powerful voice for feminism without borders. Combining documentary film and fiction, as well as Western and non-Western musical traditions, the project is a collaboration between women from the global South (Africa and the Arab region), highlighting the struggles, joys and pain of individual women, while criticizing violence against women, and the discriminatory legal system, poverty and outdated patriarchal traditions that uphold this violence.
