Two Stories on Panicking Masculinity

Muhammad El-Hajj  |  Creative and Critical Writings  |  2019  |  Egypt
The project is a collection of illustrated stories dealing with masculinity as a continuous performance and a burden of expectations and mental representations. The protagonists of the two stories belong to Cairo’s middle class, in line with the writer’s ongoing personal literary exploration of characters from this particular class at a point when their world is shifting, the old is clashing with the new and they are in acute crisis. The publication will be in the form of a fanzine where cursive handwriting and coloring by hand are used along with printing using a photocopier, in accordance with the history of the fanzine in covering politics, poetry, personal journals and literature from a technical and conceptual standpoint outside the prevalent interests of mainstream society.
