Haytham Nawar is a multidisciplinary artist, designer and scholar working at the intersection of art, technology and cultural history. He is the Diriyah Art Futures director at the Culture Ministry in Riyadh and associate professor of design at the American University in Cairo, where he previously chaired the arts department. He is also the founding director of Cairotronica – Cairo International Electronic and New Media Arts Festival. Haytham holds a PhD from the Planetary Collegium, Plymouth University, an MA in Spatial Design from Zurich University of the Arts and BFA/MFA degrees from Cairo’s Faculty of Fine Arts. A two-time Fulbright Visiting Scholar, his research focuses on design history, pictographic communication and visual culture in the Arab world and Africa. His publications include A History of Arab Graphic Design (AUC Press, 2020) and Language of Tomorrow (Intellect Books, 2020).
