A pioneer in Iraqi cinema, theater, and television. Among the prominent founders of the Modern Art Theater Group, he has participated in more than 20 plays as a director and many others as an actor. He writes columns on theater in a number of Iraqi newspapers and Khalel also served as the dean of the Fine Arts Academy in Baghdad in the mid-1990s.
