A play that revisits the ancient Greek legend of the 11th labor of Hercules, which takes place in furthest western reaches of the then-known lands, Mauritania Tangitania. Setting the story in a modern day perspective, the text takes the battle between Hercules and Antonio to enter the magical Garden of the Hesperides as an allegory of conflicts in the world today.

Category: Performing Arts
Year: 2009
Status: Closed

Lal Jamila is an original screenplay and theatrical performance staged in Tangiers about two women revolting against authority—one, against her father-in-law, the other against everything in their community—politics and societal authorities. The play is not only about women’s conditions in Arab society but addresses the general relationship of people inside their community, the role of authority and their quest for freedom.
