The Sundance Institute Documentary Fund is currently accepting applications for development grants, production and post-production grants. The Sundance Documentary Fund is very competitive, generally receiving between 1,500 and 2,000 applications per year and making 40-60 grants annually. Proposals are evaluated on effective storytelling, originality, artistic approach, global relevance and potential for social engagement.
Development grants range between $10,000-$20,000 and clips, samples, trailers and teasers are highly encouraged. Production & Post-production grants range from $20,000-$50,000 and applications should include a rough cut of approximately 20-75 minutes conveying the vision of the film. Shorter cuts or unedited source footage are generally not competitive against the longer rough cuts submitted.
