Ain al-Roummaneh bus at The Hangar

13 Apr, 2011

"There are many buses in Beirut, but in the context of Lebanon’s Civil War there is only one: the Ain al-Roummaneh bus. At the center of a tit-for-tat massacre on April 13, 1975, usually pinpointed as the beginning of the 25-year conflict, the vehicle has a ghastly significance," writes The Daily Star's Matthew Moseley in a review of Hussam Bokeili's exhibition, A Bus And Its Replicas... currently on display at The Hangar, the gallery space of Umam documentation and research.

Moseley described the exhibition as "a collection of bus-obsessed canvases" adding that it "also displays, astonishingly, the Ain al-Roummaneh bus itself."

The exhibition is open daily from 4 PM to 9 PM until May 1, 2011.
