Egypt: the guest of Cannes festival

“Arab cinema powerhouse Egypt, which in January rose up in revolt to topple President Hosni Mubarak, will become the Cannes Film Festival's first guest country at this year's event.” according to The Independent newspaper.

 

The 64th edition of the best known cinema festival will be organizing “an homage to late Egyptian directing legend Yousseff Chahine who died in 2008”. A film grouping the short films shot during the revolution of January 25 will also be screened, while the Tunisian revolution will be represented by the film “Plus Jamais Peur” directed by Mourad Ben Cheikh and produced by AFAC 2009 grantee Habib Attia.
