Ibraaz reviews Two AFAC Grantees

11 May, 2012

Renowned online publishing forum on contemporary visual culture in the MENA region, Ibraaz, has published a review of the latest exhibition by AFAC 2009 Visual Arts grantee Saba Innab, “On Longing.”  Created as part of Innab’s “No Sheeps’ Land” exhibition at Darat al Funun in Amman in 2011, “On Longing” is an urban mapping project consisting of maps, drawings, text, and art works reflecting on the growth process of the city of Amman, the gentrification of public spaces and the shifts of centers, trying to answer the question “for whom exactly is the city being planned?”

In another article, Ibraaz also reviewed the AFAC funded project “Bus Cemetery” which was developed by “Dictaphone Group” and performed during AFAC’s First Gala Dinner on December 18th 2011 at the Mar Mikhail Bus Station in Beirut. The project explores the transformation of urban spaces in Lebanon, focusing on the lack of public spaces and the negligence of public transportation, reviving a need to collectively think about the “public.”
