Wednesday, March 14th - Censorship in the arts will be the target of tonight’s artistic demonstration at Metro al-Madina in Beirut. This free of charge event is an evening of performance and talks to address the issue of censorship. Titled “I Am Free”, the event brings together diverse Lebanese artists including filmmaker and guest speaker Wael Noureddine, dancer Alexandre Paulikevitch, the skit troupe Sit Down Comedy, musicians Zeid and the Wings, Dani Baladi, frontman of Fareeq al-Atrash Ed Abbas, rappers Katibe Khamse and the musical band Adonis.
In an interview with The Daily Star, Zeid Hamdan of Zeid and the Wings explained that Lebanon is moving towards more censorship, alluding to the new law regulating internet publishing that is being signed. Hamdan added that Lebanon “is closing down and isolating itself,” explain that the purpose of tonight’s artistic demonstration is “a campaign to raise awareness among people on what is happening to our country.”
