06 Jun, 2011

On June 2nd, 2011, the Iraqi Pavilion was launched at the 54th Venice Biennale under the theme “Wounded Water." Curated by Mary Angela Schroth, the Pavilion hosts six of the most active Iraqi contemporary artists including Ali Assaf, Azad Nanakeli, Walid Siti, Adel Abidin, Ahmed Alsoudani, and Halim Al Karim whose work revolves around the theme of water.

The pavilion, in collaboration with the Arizona State University Art Museum and Echo Foundation for Contemporary Iraqi Art, also organized a panel on June 4th, entitled “A Fluid Resilience.” The panel, attended by numerous artists, intellectuals and cultural activists, addressed the possibilities of artistic and scientific practices as means of social resilience and of sustainable regeneration through innovative knowledge production.

With AFAC's support, “Wounded Water” will be flowing through the Venice canals until November 27th, 2011.
