Dr. Ghassan Salamé, Chairman of the Board of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture-AFAC, announced today the appointment of Mrs. Rima Mismar as Executive Director of AFAC to succeed Oussama Rifahi as of January 1st, 2017. The decision culminated a long search process which started with announcing an open call for applications and concluded with interviewing the best candidates.
"It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Rima Mismar as Executive Director of AFAC following six years of active contribution to AFAC, first as a Film Programs Manager, then as Deputy Executive Director,” commented Dr. Salamé.
Dr. Salamé added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Oussama in the name of all of us, board and team, for his untiring engagement and great efforts over the past seven years to bring AFAC to its pioneering status as Arab institution, and I am grateful for his willingness to continue to serve our institution as a member of its board. I also thank the members of the Search Committee for their commitment and diligence in the evaluation process. This will hail a new phase in the life of AFAC; the board and I are much looking forward to continue on the path of success of the past and to new directions under Rima's energetic and visionary leadership.”
AFAC opened for applications to the position on its website and social media on July 4th, closing the call on August 31st 2016. A Search Committee constituted by board members Suzanne Wettenschwiler, Amr ben Halim, Nabil Qaddumi and Executive Director Oussama Rifahi reviewed 28 applications and shortlisted 4 candidates which were interviewed face-to-face in Beirut on November 10th. After thorough discussion and deliberation, the Search Committee unanimously decided to recommend to the board the promotion of Mrs. Rima Mismar to the Executive Director position. The board endorsed the recommendation of the Search Committee and the Chairman on November 28th 2016.
