Sixteen new feature-length documentary projects were selected mid-September 2011 to receive grants from ADFP, AFAC’s special program for Arab documentary filmmakers. Less than a month later, AFAC and its grantees are heading to the Dok-Leipzig Documentary Festival for their first workshop.
Dok-Leipzig’s relationship with the Arab world started long ago in the 60s and 70s but was interrupted for some time now. 22 documentary filmmakers and producers will have the opportunity to attend a deep-rooted (since 1955) and specialized documentary festival and network with prominent industry professionals. They will be accompanied by veteran filmmakers Ghassan Salhab (Lebanon) and Ali Essafi (Morocco) in addition to Bruni Burres (USA) representing our ADFP partner, the Sundance Documentary Institute.
The adequately tailored ADFP workshop will host industry experts like Claudia Schreiner (MDR), Sabine Bubeck-Paaz (ZDF), Jutta Krug (WDR), Vincenzo Bugno (World Cinema Fund), Charlie Phillips (Sheffield doc/fest), Sonja Heinen (Berlinale), Sybille Kurz (Art of Pitching) and many others. These industry experts will share their experience and knowhow with our grantees in panels, group discussions and one-on-one meetings.
