AFAC’s End of Year Event is an opportunity to celebrate creativity and contemporary critical practices in arts and culture. We are pleased to announce the program of our event.
Taking place in Dubai over a two-day period – November 29th and 30th - the AFAC End of Year Event 2014 brings together Public Art Commissions by 5 visual artists under the theme “InVisible” and a series of public Talks with the Artists to discuss the role of public art and contemporary artistic expression, followed the next day by a Music Concert by Mashrou’ Leila at Music Hall Dubai.
We hope to see you there!
“InVisible” Public Art Commission
AFAC has commissioned 5 visual artists to create public artworks that explore, each in their own way, the characteristics of public art in scale, forms, and presence, within a site-specific context in Dubai. How does public art, in a direct or indirect way, conceal the visible and reveal the invisible?
The commission is curated by Amanda Abi Khalil and the unveiling will take place on November 29th, Starting at 4:00 Pm at Al Jalila Cultural Center for Children (Map). The Commissioned Artists are:
Doa Aly (Egypt)
Monira Al-Qadiri (Kuwait)
Sheikha Al-Mazrou (UAE)
Vartan Avakian (Lebanon)
Vikram Divecha (UAE)
The Artists Talks
A series of talks with the five commissioned artists of “InVisible” will be held in collaboration with local partners during the morning and the afternoon of November 29th at 6:00 at Al Jalila Cultural Center for Children.
