Anna, a French visual artist, travels to Palestine with a crew and actors intent on making a film about Christ. However, once there, she stumbles upon Ziad, a frustrated young actor from the Aida refugee camp. Struck by Ziad’s suffering, Anna decides to offer him the lead role, replacing Andre, the French actor who traveled with her. The film effects a role reversal, with Andre, whose confidence in his ability to portray a character whose lived experience is beyond him, taking up a role in Palestinian theater and increasingly becoming involved in the struggle against occupation. Ziad, on the other hand, finds himself flanked by a largely European film coterie. The film will interrogate the stakes of the connection between art and politics as decided by the authentic representation of political suffering.
